keita suto
born in ibaraki, japan, keita suto trained at the prestigious kyoto university of the arts as well as at the haute école d’art et design in geneva before opening his own studio MO’STO in 2011. he has since exhibited extensively in japan, receiving prizes in the takaoka craft competition (2012), soba inoguchi art show (2014) and the amakusa ceramic art show’s jury’s choice award (2014). suto creates only in unique series, each completely different from the last, and so has worked in a huge variety of different ceramic styles. however, whatever the style his work is always touched with a slight surrealism that is particularly pronounced in this group, taking inspiration from salvador dali to turn the vases, and their plants, into little figures and faces. suto writes: ‘the vases are made from soil, and the appearance of their surfaces will become more beautiful the more that they are used. i wish that you enjoy the vases ageing with your life.’
